Artist Statement
My work is a series of experimentation with clay. I see myself mostly testing out different uses of lines, color, shapes, and forms. My work tends to be more classic and geometric. I think my work reflects exactly what it is we face every day. I want to change the world, like many other people do. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself. My ideas and concepts of what I can and can’t achieve change from day to day. As I see that I can overcome challenges set before me, I move on to bigger and greater things. The hardest part of creating is harnessing that creativity and thinking of an idea so unique that interests you enough to make it. And clay gives me the ability to put my ideas into form.
As a ceramics student, I have worked with clay for about two years. I have learned to hand build in my first year and to throw on the wheel my second. I have always seen ceramics as a way to express myself and my unique ideas. I hardly every begin with a very defined plan, I like to begin with an idea and follow where it leads. While working with clay, I enter a flow of creativity where the work captivates my focus. My favorite part of completing a piece is the sense of pride felt after the creation of such a unique and interesting piece of work.
